BC Fruit Season Guide: When to Buy Local and What We Jam With

by Michelle Eng

British Columbia is one of the most agriculturally rich provinces in Canada. From the Fraser Valley to the Okanagan, BC produces an incredible variety of fruit — much of it world-class. But great fruit is seasonal, and knowing when each variety peaks is the key to getting the most flavour out of every bite.

Late Spring: Strawberry Season (June)

BC strawberries arrive in late spring and are gone before summer even hits full stride. Fraser Valley strawberries are smaller and more intense than the oversized, underripe berries found in grocery stores most of the year. They bruise easily and don't travel well — which is exactly why they're so special locally. This is when we produce our Duchess of Strawberry, capturing that brief, brilliant season in a jar.

Summer: Cherries, Peaches, and Raspberries (July–August)

July is when BC fruit season hits its stride. Okanagan cherries start appearing first — dark, plump, and intensely sweet with a slight tartness underneath. Raspberries follow closely, with their characteristically bright acidity and floral aroma. Raspberry Dandy is our flagship and most popular year-round flavour for good reason.

Peaches arrive in August, at their best when they're tree-ripened and yield slightly to pressure. Fuzz E. Peach captures that honeyed, fragrant quality that BC peaches are known for — the kind that runs down your chin when you bite into one.

Late Summer into Fall: Blueberries and Currants (August–September)

BC blueberries are a point of provincial pride. The Fraser Valley produces enormous quantities of exceptional blueberries annually. Baron Von Blueberry is made from these locally grown blueberries — infused with allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon for a warm, complex profile that's as good on a charcuterie board as it is on morning toast.

Currants are one of the more underappreciated BC fruits — deeply flavoured, almost wine-like, with a beautiful jewel-red colour. Corvid Currant is one of our seasonal standouts, and it sells out quickly. If you see it available, don't hesitate.

Sourcing From Farms We Trust

East Van Jam doesn't just buy from any supplier. We've built ongoing relationships with BC farmers who share our values — people who care about how they grow and who they grow for. Bergen Farms is our current Feature Farm, and we're proud to share their story on our website.

This commitment to local sourcing means our supply is seasonal and sometimes limited. When a flavour sells out, it's because the fruit it was made from has its own calendar — and we respect that.
